真面目な作品です。いつもが不真面目な訳ではないですが。もちろん笑いはありますが、今回は喜劇ではありません。上手い俳優さん達に集まってもらい「権力」と「芸術」のお芝居をやります。物を作る全ての人々に捧げる物語です。

今回はこれまでの三谷作品とちょっと違う、また面白い物語りに出会う事が出来ました。

1940年代後半から1950年代にかけてハリウッドを揺るがせた“赤狩り"。東西冷戦を背景に「非米活動委員会」からコミュニストだと告発されると映画界からの事実上の永久追放(ブラックリスト化)になってしまう。そんなアメリカ映画界の暗黒の時代に生きた四人の映画関係者たち。仲間を売って自分の生活を守るのか、それとも自分の人生を犠牲にするのか。彼らに突き付けられた究極の選択。
中川大志
今作で描かれる時代背景を学ぶところから始まり、当時の映画や音楽にも触れながら役に向き合った時間は、このキャラクターの血となり肉となっていると信じています。
