東京都生まれ。高校在学中、オーディションで寺山修司に見いだされ、寺山自身が監督・脚本を手がけた、フランス映画『草迷宮』(79)に主演し俳優としてデビュー。1987年公開映画『私をスキーに連れてって』（馬場康夫監督）で脚光を浴び、その後『君の瞳をタイホする！』（88）など数々のドラマに出演。一世を風靡する。映画では『スワロウテイル』（96、岩井俊二監督）『月の砂漠』(01、青山真治監督)などに主演、舞台では寺山修司没後20年記念公演『青ひげ公の城』(03)、『ヘドウィグ・アンド・アングリーインチ』（04、05）、『あわれ彼女は娼婦』（06）、『タンゴ・冬の終わりに』(15)に主演し、今年1月には寺山修司没後40年記念『三上博史 歌劇―私さえも、私自身がつくり出した一片の物語の主人公にすぎない―』を上演。映画、ドラマ、舞台など多岐にわたって活躍している。※本公演では喫煙シーンがございます。予めご了承くださいませ。
